I'm not Gordon Gekko or anything but I would think future revenue and worth are taken into account when you sell a business. If I have a lemonade stand with $75 worth of product and funds to its name and it profits $20 a day, I am not going to sell it for that $75. I am going to sell it for $75 plus a lot of days worth of that profit.
And if a situation like MS and Minecraft comes along where the buyer is interested in expanding it and making it even more profitable, then I am going to sell it for a lot more than it's worth to me.
But honestly, how would anyone other than an exec at Microsoft be able to answer your question, or even judge the buy in an educated manner? We are forum dwellers. We have no idea what MS plans to do with the IP.
