That's horrible if she's getting death threats. Anyway it just empowers her in a way because it makes her into sort of a martyr. I don't like this movement to try to emasculate gaming/comic books. Why make the fantasy world as boring and no fun as reality? If people want more X, Y, or Z in gaming heck they should go out and make it happen, not whine until they get their way.
