Canadians and Americans did the same thing to Japanese... killed countless people just because they were Japanese, tortured them and did atrocious things and were never convicted or punished in any way but hey... History is written by the victors. |
Do you have any type of record or proof of this? If you're referring to an actual battlefield occurrance, that doesn't count because it's a fucking battlefield. The truth is German POW's and the few Japanese POW's that were willing to surrender were actually treated a lot better than our own soldiers. They got proper clothing and shelter. They got two or three full meals a day. They themselves were surprised by this. In fact, there was one occurance when a Japanese soldier was unwillingly captured and had asked the Americans to execute him. The Americans refused. Also, when the Americans invaded Okinawa, they were actually respectful to the civilians on that island who just before were treated like shit by their own government.
I'm not saying everything the west did in that conflict was right. The US internment camp for German and Japanese Americans was wrong. The recist propaganda in America was wrong. Choosing a city that had been untouched by the war as the place to drop the atom bomb was wrong. But as far as torturing is concerned, the Western powers actually went out of their way to make sure none of this happened. If it did happen, then General Patton slapping one of his own soldiers in the face would be the least controversial thing to have happened.
