I can't believe I have to say it again. MS could make a ROI for buying Minecraft within a year. It takes far longer than that, more manpower, energy etc, to make a new AAA game (or 20 new AAA games) all of which could flop! Making successful AAA games is not as easy as just shelling out $100M.
The thing is, they didn't buy just a game. They bought a community that is very much still alive and kicking. They bought great developers that actually _talk_ to the community. They bought into the mobile landscape which for MS is far more important than 20 AAA games.
