I don't think anyone is going to question that Microsoft has had to offer greater incentives than Sony has to generate sales. But there is this pervasive idea on these forums that Microsoft has somehow become desperate, based largely of a sense of price cutting that simply has not materialised (yet). One can make the argument that the price of entry has lowered with the removal of Kinect, but at the end of the day its apples and oranges as the SKU has substantially less features. |
The sensation of MS desperation is probably because we follow all their actions and try to spin it to seek of desperation and not just MS trying to find the best way to propel their sales... and since most here are really nitpick about one company or another and like to criticize their every move when MS do a promotion a month (more or less) and have some PR blunders then we all push it to the desperation route.
For me MS Xbox division is a little cornered and need results but MS as a whole could care less, I actually don't even see why the investor complain or would complain so much about they not making hefties of money on Xbox since the company as a whole is quite health and Xbox even being a distraction never impended them from making lot of profit.
But yes we shouldn't try to make all MS moves seem desperate. If sales were reversed we would say Sony is lenient and MS is overkilling, so in the end is just corporations playing their game to push sales.
