Sony - Why I hated FFXII. - View Post

Having played all of the FF console games, I admit I enjoyed most of them. I purchased a PS1 when FF8 came out solely for FF7 and FF8. I liked FF7's twisted story and I liked the power behind the junction system. I purchased a PS2 for the DVD player and FFX. I liked FFX a lot (180 hours of blitzball with every player at max level, completely remade the sphere grid, etc.) My girlfriend liked FFX-2, but I couldn't play more than maybe 5 minutes before I started to feel physically ill from the voice acting. I played FFXI for a total of over 365 in-game played hours... it's a great game except other people are playing, and they're almost all retarded.

FFXII was such a huge disappointment for me, I've completely given up on SE and consequently I won't be buying a PS3 for FFXIII. FFXII was just graphics, the story was completely missing because they saved it for the little spinoff games. Something like 70% of the game seemed to be pointless side quests. Random treasure was the single most irritating thing I have ever seen in a video game. Resetting your console to get an item in a single player game is just a waste of time and tough on your hardware. The gambit system was just about as bad. With any sort of intelligence you can actually write yourself out of the game, leaving FFXII closer to a barely interactive movie without a plot than anything else. Why is there a monster that takes hours upon hours to kill that drops a weapon that sucks worse than the ones you already have? To date, FFXII is the only game I considered bad enough to have traded in to a used game store. I run a small card games shop (Magic: the Gathering), and every person who comes in owns a PS2. Everyone (And I do mean everyone, all 6 of them) who has played FFXII agrees with the basics of what I've said, the game is just all around terrible except the graphics. It's just a big timesink with very little storyline reward. Also, they agree Fran is hot.
