American goverment want to maintain its role as world power. To achieve this ,they must control Europe.
Very big supplies of oil are stored in middle east, that can make europe independant from russian oil.
Another reason is that war is profitable for both the weapon manufacturers and for multinational companies that rebuild what the bombardment destroyed.
