I'm a huge Nintendo fan. And what he's saying is completely true IMO. I've gamed on the SNES (was my friends'), N64, GC, Wii, Wii U, and all other handhelds and to me the games have all the polish, but they are on systems that are so far back in this day and age that it's sad. They just now implemented an online account. Games are still tied into the systems, granted they are working on something hopefully, but it's still 2014. No multi tasking, no voice chat, the games inside the virtual console are still lacking in release. Have they released anything from the N64 yet? Why do you think 3rd parties skip out on online? Another point that highlights the issues with the online. 

I enjoy the games on the systems, but there is no denying that the system itself is stuck in the past.
