Well, the first one barely scraped passed 2 million across over 160 million PS3s and Xbox 360s.
Let's assume the Wii U tops out at about 20 million consoles sold. To get the same attach rate Bayo 2 would have to sell 250,000. I'm petty sure it can top that.

That doesn't have much to do with his post though. He said hack and slash in terms of the whole genre, not just Bayonetta. And in that regards you KNOW that its not even fair to compare that to Bayonetta 2, atleast not for PS3. For that you should compare it to God Of War III, as both are hack and slash games and exclusive to the console.
God Of War III sold 5.2 million units as of 31st May, 2012 (Source: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-06-05-god-of-war-series-has-sold-over-21-million-copies) and is probably at over 6 million by now. To match even the 2012 sales attach rate of the game, Bayonetta 2 has to sell 1.5 million units which it probably will not.

Bayonetta is not just any hack 'n' slash though; it's niche even by the standards of that genre. Even on PS3/360 it couldn't pull mega sales, because it's just not a mainstream game.

Yeah that makes sense. Wonder what made Nintendo back up a sequel, they could have asked Platinum to develop an entirely new hack and slash game which had similar combat but aesthetically wasn't so niche.
