I haven't played the game, though I've watched a little bit of it on Twitch.
Based off everything I've seen and heard going back to the Beta, I get the impression that two things have helped this game:
1. Bungie made it
2. Activision has done a masterful job of hyping the game
I expect the game will be extremely front-loaded in sales and don't expect it to be a system seller. It sounds like too mediocre a game to be otherwise. And don't forget this is on last gen hardware. That significantly cripples the game's ability to sell current gen hardware.
