MS probably views Minecraft as their own Mario or Pokemon-like franchise. Something they can cash in on in various iterartions, forever. Also, with its popularity on PC and other platforms, it's also an interesting hedge against the future of Xbox in a way.
In reality, this is probably more like Wii Sports. Massive popularity and sales for a handful of years, then nothing.
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
