I think we'll see a nice, solid boost this week from the deal, as it is a pretty awesome thing, especially if used in conjunction with a bundle AND the fifty dollar gift card that Microsoft is offering. Hoooowever, I think that a fair number of the sales will have been from people who had been planning to buy one sometime this holiday season anyway, (basically, anyone who hears about it, and has the money on hand, who wanted to get one before Christmas,) so some of the sales boost this week is going to be at the expense of future sales. We might also see a sharp drop immediately after the deal ends, as folks who just missed it are going to be more likely to wait for another.
The long-term benefits remain to be seen, and I kind of think Microsoft is doing this to try and keep from getting absolutely obliterated during the September NPD more than any wider-picture sales boost.. xP
