Ask yourself this you have limited finds you are looking for a gaming console? What do you buy a PS2 for $100 or a PS3 for $400? The choice is a no brainer.

If you already have a PS2, then yes.  However, I never owned a PS2.  The way I looked at it is I can get a PS2 for $130.  Or by using SonyStyle you can get the 80 gig for $400 and make interest free payments for a year.

For the extra $270, you get:

1.  A good game (I got Motorstorm, soon you can get MGS4)

2.  An 80 gig hardrive (no more memory cards, YAY)

3.  A PS2 and a PS3 (yes, it is not full backward compatible, but I haven't noticed any issues yet and it upconverts to 1080p)

4.  A blu ray player (hit and miss with this if you don't own an HDTV, but while it may not reach DVD levels, it is DVD replacement)

5.  Wireless controller (no more pulling out the game system to sit 5 feet from it)

6.  Much more reliable system than the PS2 (If you buy the PS2 and it breaks in 2 years where does that get you?)

I decided these were worth $270 to me.  But I've always been more on the cutting edge of technology.  Really though this argument has been beaten to death.  The PS3 is a great system.  No, it doesn't have the game library of the PS2 and people can argue whether the media functionality adds any value to them personally.  But it is worth the money.  But I understand why people don't buy it.
