Halo: The Master Chief Collection Is Shaping Up To Be More Than Just A Simple Remake.

Now I started a thread how it's a remake and not a remaster because it is, and I defended it as such, but this topic is wrong.

If you count a remaster as a remake, which it isn't, then sure, the topic is correct.  But Halo 2 is the exact same game with "atleast" a graphics overall, the very definition of a remake.

There are games that are more than just simple remakes, and those are games that go beyond a graphical update.  Games that include the graphical update but include new content, new gameplay mechanics, new storyline, new scenarios, etc.

X-COM Enemy Unknown is more than just a simple remake.  It's the same game, but more than just better graphics, the base mechanics have become more streamlined, battle now revolves around more strategy, etc.

Brigandine Grand Edition is more than just a simple remake.  The storyline is the same, although it now includes cutscenes t hroughout the game, animations have been changed from separate 3D animated sequences(if left on) to 2D sequences that occur on the field of battle, elements have a rock/paper/scissors effect to them rather  than opposite elements taking off more damage to one another(which also worked fine.)  The games main enemy in the storyline of the first game actually wasn't in the game as a final boss.  He is in Grand Edition.  They included a multiplayer mode with up to six players where any of the six countries can be played, the rest AI controlled, and several different years to choose from with less countries owning the continent.

Mega Man Powered Up and Mega Man Maverick Hunter X are more than simple remakes.  Powered Up has an old style that has the same stages but isn't exactly like the original.  The new style includes two new bosses, Oil Man and Time Man, every stage is completely redone, multiple difficulties, play as the bosses in any stage, and create your own stages.  Mega Man Maverick Hunter X has the same original game world, but enemy layout is different.  You also get to play as Vile, who plays completely different from Mega Man.

Duck Tales Remastered is more than just a simple remake.  There's a couple brand new stages, there's a completely new storyline that reuses all the same voice actors, some stages are quite a bit different, bosses are fought differently, and then the graphics.

So Halo 2 is just a simple remake.  Is it the best looking remake of all time?  Currently, yeah, and by far.  Are the graphics the most substantial difference from this one to the original?  Nope, many games have a bigger jump in graphics from their predecessors than Halo 2 does.  I'd say the biggest goes to X-COM Enemy Unknown.
