To answer the original question: we simply won't know for a year, just as no one knew their launch unit was going to brick on them until a year or so later. Chances are they have a much higher chance of survival than the units that came before them, but that doesn't mean you're safe. Of course, reports I've read have said other reports I've read were blowing the problem slightly out of proportion (16% rather than 35%, but either number is still bad). So if you want a stable machine, don't buy a 360 just yet. If you want one more stable than the ones manufactured in the first year, though, you'll be okay. Just depends on if you are willing to take more of a risk than other consumer products or not.

And anyone who commented on twesterms posts needs to realize the guy sits firmly on one side of the fanboy fence and doesn't mind fighting the bad fight every time, everywhere. He doesn't need to be honest, he likes microsoft. And so, in turn, regardless of whether he realizes it or not, his posts do not coincide with the reality that the rest of us face, and he doesn't care if you have to send your 360 in for repairs every few months. Just so long as his team wins, he'll be satisfied. Who cares if you have to send your console away for weeks on end to get repaired, right? I mean, DRE didn't piss off millions of PS2 owners such as myself, right? If we'd all just be like twesterm we could pretend there's not a problem and that it's not a major inconvenience when it bites us in the ass, because we're fanboys and we have to stick to our guns even when were wrong! ...Right?
