All Microsoft needs to do in Europe is remain relevant (relative to the PS3) whilst the Wii kicks both HD console's butts. As long as they do that, it will be eighteen months or even two full years before the PS3 catches the 360, and even longer before it catches it in "western regions."
At that stage, the next console for Microsoft will be announced (and a year from release), and the Nintendo and Sony consoles will be a year behind at most. Essentially the reason we care about console sales is because of games. Unless the PS3 absolutely starts to dominate Europe (including the Wii), it won't gain any exclusives from it's extra sales this gen that it wouldn't already have received. At best it will make a few possible 360 exclusives go multi-platform.
