It is funny...
Last generation a lot of PS gamers started the generation with little regard for Indie developers because PS3 had no Indie games on release...
When XB gamers talked about the games in Summer of Arcade games as being exclusive, PS gamers would say "those aren't real games" and only wanted to talk about retail exclusives...
Somewhere along the line this started to change late last generation and then it totally took off on the PS side with the launch of this generation where retail exclusives are almost non-existent. PS gamers started to talk about Indies as being innovative and a differentiator with XB. Turns out when PS4 shipped, almost all indie games were ports from PC land so they weren't all that new or innovative.
Now, here we are a almost a year into the generation... For me, there is no difference between Indie and Retail games and there never has been. A great game is a great game no matter how it is made, what resources were used to make it, and whether it is self-published or not.
The real concern I have is about levels of "new" content this generation. When I say new I mean a completely new sequel to an existing IP or and completely new IP that has never shipped on a phone, tablet, console or PC device before. This generation seems to be lacking overall in new content so far and gamers seem to be falling for publishers recycling existing games with remasters, HD, definitive, and ultimate editions.
The band wagon seems out of control. What I do want to see is more attention to games like Quantum Break, Bloodforge, Scalebound, Sunset Overdrive, The Order, etc... Somewhat less attention to new sequels in IPs like Uncharted, Halo, Gears of War, Forza, GT, Call of Duty, Battlefield, LBP, God of War, Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers, etc... And almost no attention to games like Tomb Raider Definitive Edition, TLOU Remastered, Halo MCC, New Super Mario Brothers, etc.
