It's not a great achievement for anyone but Sony. The numbers are up because you need to pay for online gaming now, not because it's a "great value". Not that you don't get lots of good games for the price, but many gamers are fine without those games and just want to play their COD against their friends and now they need to pay.

Yeah but thats the thing, MS proved people are willing to pay, why wouldnt Sony follow suit leaving the only other option as PC?? An option very few casual CoD gamers are going to bother with

I'm not blaming Sony for doing it, it was smart and allowed the $399 PS4 to happen.  Nintendo is stupid for not doing it.  My point is that it's not "good" for gamers in anyway to have to pay to play online.  Gamers should have rejected it and forced them to offer free online, but we're too stupid.  Sony is boasting about the dramatic increase in subscribers and people here and elsewhere are foolish enough to be happy about it and say it's because of the value.  No, it's becuase you have to buy it to play now, and Sony (like MS) is just now taking more of your money than they were before.
