To be honest most Japanese don't care. Gaming at home just isn't a big thing in Japan anymore, all those franchises were around last gen too and it was only really Wii Sports/Fit that grew the market temporarily. PS3 had most of those same franchises (and PS4 doesn't have Dragon Quest yet either, what was shown is not a traditional DQ game anymore than Dragon Quest Swords was for the Wii) too.

Enough of them do care and that's all that matters. It's not like everyone in the west likes gaming on consoles either, but there still is a market for it. Those games matter a lot and they don't just matter in Japan, but in the rest on the world as well. You could afford to miss out on one of them, maybe 2, but not all.
The handheld market is no threat to those games as the main ones will still be made for consoles, DQ could be the exception here, but that's hardly substitute enough.
