I don't know why people think Smash will do wonders for the Wii U.

I'm in agreement with your statement.  Mario Kart 8 helped the baseline when it came to weekly sales but with Nintendo focusing on hardcore gamers more this generation then I can see Super Smash Bros. Wii U helping the Wii U sell more in the long run.
