Probably so.

And this is the worst part of the equation.

With Sony quitting the handheld market, I'm afraid that a certain kind of portable gaming will die, and we'll be left with the typical Pokemon/Cooking Mama/Sponge Bob stuff for Nintendo and the alternative "Free to Play but Pay to Win" social games for the smartphones.

But there's nothing to do about it. I think that not even a late Sony marketing campaign could change the fact that casual gamers don't feel attracted to Vita. As for the hardcore gamers, a device cannot live on them alone, expecially if the software is going toward the indie products instead of high quality productions.
