Well nintendo has thrived on the casual market and I doubt that they will shift focus in such a manner. The handheld market is fundamentally different from the console market, nintendo's skill has been to identify that difference and make games designed for it like pokemon, Mario land series, HH specific zeldas, professor Layton etc.
Let's see if nintendo can find a hardcore base in the HH market, as historically they haven't been able to create one and compete in the home console sphere.
