They may mostly be heterosexual and white but I think there is a wider variety of personality traits amongst male characters. I believe it is the whole smurfette thing that you see in a lot of games that Sarkeesian used as an example, where the male characters are defined by their personalities whereas the female characters defining trait is the fact that she is female.
But yeah, if we are honest there aren't that many multi-layered and complex characters in gaming period, regardless of gender.
