Process of elimination, based on everyone being honest about their roles to date, tossed out there as speculation. The beauty of chatting with someone you like and trust is that you can throw out half baked ideas when they occur to you, even when a simple second go around shows obvious defects. For what it's worth, the "hylian would scan prof" thinking actually never occured to me, as I didn't put much energy into uncovering the cop's identity.
