uhm, the PS4 is like 5/6 matte

I doubt they will change the glossyness for other colors, but it might not be as obtrusive in white

It is especially matte on the top which means it collects dust, scratches and everything one should hate glossy designs for:

I guess it won't be as bad in white, right.

the glossy part is easily removeable, maybe some third parties will offer matte exchange parts

I just wonder why they put it in? Really, are there people who like glossy designs? I can't think of any advantage on a glossy design. If you have to take care for dust yourself you get immediately angry about glossy designs.

Let me answer for you, as a product designer.

Without vents above it, hot air cannot escape but adding vents would compromise the overall design.
So the next best thing is to use smooth surfaces to transmit heat faster, at the same time air current flowing over the surface has less drag, thus moves heat more efficiently. the heat on the other side of the machine cannot return down and soak the board because it will be pushed out by the fan, the heat in the hdd bay has no fan assisted exhaust, so is subject to moderate heat soak, any increased efficiency in moving said heat is worthwhile.
