what i hate is the way they refer to themselves as hackers - DDOS is not hacking, it's the equivelant of ringing somebody's doorbell and running away all night until the owners decide not to answer their door anymore.

I'd say it's more like creating a robot to repeatedly press the doorbell, and via a Public Address system, broadcast the resident's increasing ire at not being able to open the door and smash the robot with a lump hammer.
