It was implied, but there is little to no likeliness it's actually a stage hazard. Watch the GamExplain on it.

IIRC, The Pyrosphere is where you fight Ridley in Other M. I'd say it's more likely that he's a stage hazard...

Well yes, but that's more of my point. It's so likely everybody expects it. Ridley would be expected if he didn't imply he was a stage hazard, and Sakurai likes to do things that are unexpected. Trust me, I've thought the whole thing through. There's a reason for my profile pic.
