Infinity and Skylanders both really are average/above-average games. Nintendo creates better quality games. I'm pretty sure they've carefully thought through how Amiibo works to really make games better.
While Infinity benefits from being Disney-cast, Skylanders started from the Spryo Universe. Commercially a successful one, but not one you'd bet a billion dollars on prior to Skylanders -- and yet that's where it's at today.
Consider Nintendo's tendency to make really great games with highly visible IP and you have a starting point towards a major success in Amiibo
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
