I think what we're going to see is a backlash against feminism by men who are actually not against equality, just as feminism itself was the backlash against the unfair treatment of women.
In both cases, as with just about everything else, it's the extremists who ruin the whole parade. They're the ones who get all the attention and eventually become the de facto representatives of their respective sides, even though they don't really represent many people at all. They cause a snowball effect, where bystanders become collateral damage and end up jumping in to defend themselves, usually with words of anger and misplaced aggression.
Yeah, just like fanboys and fangirls.
By the way, Phil Fish annoys the hell out of me. Not because he's an asshole or because he wants to stop making games but because he cries like a bloody five year old child. I mean, goddamn, pull your big boy pants on, Phil. People were mean to you online? Goodness. Everyone in the entire world who works in retail is rolling their eyes at you. A couple days ago, I had an old man yell at me because I politely explained to him why he was having problems with his account. That's to my face, up close and personal, not over social fucking media. And you know what, Phil? I couldn't throw a hissy fit because being polite is part of my job. I, and many, many other people, deal with assholes on a daily basis. The gaming community isn't the devil and you certainly are no martyr. You're just a guy who thought dealing with assholes by being an asshole was a good idea, then ran away when he realized no one person can win against hundreds of anonymous assholes.
