No.... Please the basics of a DDos is to split the information to handlers and go after the target. There is a lot of ways to stop that, Ips based prevention, black holing and sink holing firewalls on switches, routers and servers, etc.

making thousands of bots isn't viable you compromise handlers. Because you would not have the bandwidth to make the amount of bots to take down a server farm.

Do you have any idea what you are talking about or are you just chaining words together to sound smart?

Stopping the packets from reaching the server is the easy task. That however doesn't free up the clogged lines to the datacenter. DDoS needs to be dealt with by the ISP or else any dropping of packets at the enterprise edge is meaningless if they're targeting all available WAN links including the backup WAN.

But even then it's a risk for the ISP because large scale blocking will also affect other sources and destinations.

The only way to successfully stop a large scale DDoS is being Google or MS or Amazon who have spare datacenters coming out of their asses to defer traffic.

Sir the original comments was that DDos can't be stopped and it can.  Also the packets can be stopped from reaching the server in the first place by being dropped into a null server and avoiding any risk to the ISP or target server. My original point was to say that a DDos can be stopped, even small scale DDos attacks are stopped by rate limiting on routers and switches. So yes I have a basic understanding of what I'm talking about, I don't claim to be an expert but I know of the basics to prevent and stop a DDos attack such as cleaning centers, black holing and sink holing. Please read the first comment, to witch I was referring. I wasn't trying to give a 10 hour lecture on advanced DDos for advanced forum posters that 'know what they are talking about'.

im just saying DDos can be stopped. I don't know everything and I don't claim to, such is the reason I don't go into detail because knowing of methods does not make me an expert it just means that I know of methods that can be used.
