Nintendo are in many ways conservative. But their next "console", Nintendo Fusion, will probably be taking most of its inspiration from the handheld consoles. That is where they are successful, that is where they have the upper hand. This could mean an always connected smartphoneish solution with streaming games to avoid HDDs. At home you will have a Chromecast kind of thing in your TV that streams from your wifi. Nintendo misjudged the SD to HD transition on the Wii but otherwise they try to stay on the forefront of technology.
The major parts of the consumers of these services live in bigger cities with access to good internet. Those of us that do not, are not the target audience.
