they will drop x1 earlier than x360.
5 years max.*
i expect half x360 sales.

*i think ps4 sucess will force ms to start 9 gen early.

a balanced generation is longer than a dominated generation...

I hope that does not happen. I actually dont think it can.

Everyone knows that console sales are on the decline and pc is rising. If they drop the gen to quickly it will be worst for MS themselfs. If they drop the console due to lack of sales it will look bad and people will loose confidence on the brand and wont switch to the next gen, they will be better off buying the cheaper ps4 that still gets support and has many exclusive or wait for the ps5 wich will come soon and knows ps has the best exclusives. This is a problem for MS because they lack the most exclusives and when they get them from third partys they go to pc so they will just switch to pc.

For they to switch early they would first need  a deasent installbase and a big number of exclusives that people will know would come back only on next gen or else no one will want the next console. If they can achive this in 5 years, wich to my gess is at least 40m installbase and around 10 games that canot be played anywhere else and are high rated, then is safe to dump the x1, but thas highly unllikely. They need to take their time and build up those first party studios with great IP's.

Even if they are loosing 4:1 they need to wait it out at least 6 years for them to have the requierements to know that next gen a lot of dedicated fans will get the next console. Sony wont go first because they are enjoying the sales to much, so MS can take their time.

Also if they go to quickly I think it will be bad for gaming. Since people will look bad upon gaming consoles if they live to shortly and have very few exclusives, since pcs can play most games and do many other things.

good points. agreed.
