it already can be used in conjunction with others, and at no time in the 9 months or so its been out, no other button or joystick as got in its way, their is more then enough room for all of it unless your suffering from gigantism. and i have told you how, if you actually tried to debate my points instead of going back to your check list of things you claim to be gimmicks, you might have noticed. It is used as mouse functionality, so when the joysticks are used up for the camera and movement, you can still select from other windows that are on your screen, aswell as select things you see. this is especially useful in ff14 when you have multiple enemies engaged, aswell as having allies to heal. or for nagivating merchant screens. yes, some parts can be used as a joystick, but not always, and compared to having an actual touchpad, as you would on a laptop.. its not even close. as for killzone, all the shoulder buttons were taken, and you said to use a shoulder button to bring up the directional inputs on the touch pad. if you use one to bring up secondary functions on the d-pad, you will still be short 1 input. and thats still FAR more akward and time consuming then a simple swipe this thread is getting hilarious. only on vgchartz lol |
It can't be used at the same time. If my thumb is on the face buttons/left stick and my index finger is on the shoulder/triggers I will have to move one in order to manipulate the touchpad. Either that or I will have to contort my hands in a way that just isn't natural. That is why it won't take off. And maybe your hands are just super tiny because I struggle to press the options button without hitting the touchpad.
So look at this controller. Look how the options button has been shoved aside because of the touchpad. Now if I want to pause something (which I often do when viewing media/netflix etc) I have to move my thumb up to the tiny spot whereas I would have only needed to shift my thumb slightly to the left on 360 or dS3. Is that a big deal? Not really, but since I need the options button much more than I need the touchpad, it is annoying. If the thing causing this discomfort was actually useful I might now mind as much. With these things small design decisions can make a big difference. I have similar nitpicking problems with the X1 controller, the devil is in the details.
As Dr_Henry_Killinger pointed out FF14 and Warthunder also support mouse and keyboard functionality so the touchpad on the ds4 is still the inferior way to play those games.
