Sony's system checks to make sure that your controller is a legit sony controller every 8 minutes. 

That makes it a type of Digital Rights Management in my book even if it is not the typical scenario.

Oh right. That's interesting. Its not that huge of an issue for me but I can see why it would annoy some people.
