It's always strange to me how some people get upset over what other people like to play and feel the need to make up disparaging "reasons" why those people enjoy what they enjoy.

Personally, Nintendo doesn't make a lot of games that appeal to me and, believe me, I've long ago stopped worrying about what the "cool kids" are playing. I play what I like because it's what I like, not because I'm trying to fit in with anyone else. Even before the PS1 launched, I was starting to lose interest in what the SNES had to offer, though I oddly still thought of myself as a Nintendo fan.

I grew up with reading novels as my primary hobby. I like complex and interesting characters, gripping storylines, and engaging world-building. I like to have my imagination stimulated, not just my reflexes. That isn't all that I like, of course, but I do enjoy those elements and Nintendo games rarely venture down those paths.

I also got my fill of platformers during the NES and SNES eras, which obviously makes Nintendo less important to me than to those who love that genre.

As for Nintendo titles that do make me want a Nintendo console, Fire Emblem, Zelda, and Metroid are at the forefront. The DS/3DS has plenty of 3rd party games that I also want to play. I was looking closely at the Wii for awhile, as it had a solid amount of RPGs, but Skyward Sword really turned me off. I'm much more hopeful about Zelda U.
