All it really tells us is that MS do care quite a bit about resolution, and rightly so. The X1 currently has the image of being an inadequate piece of hardware. That's of course true to any of us that like better image quality, but it's an image they obviously want to avoid becoming wide spread among general consumers.

The average joe doesn't care/know much as specific hardware types, resolutions, AA etc, but everyone understands the basic concept of product A > product B. That's a dangerous situation to find yourself in when you're selling at the same price as Product A.
