| Samus Aran said: Yeah, it doesn't really deserve to sell that well (imo) as Sony did nothing special. There aren't many new games out on it and that's probably one of the reasons why a year old remaster is selling so much. PS4 seems to be selling purely on brand awareness and the fact that it's relatively cheap (compared to PS3 at launch). |
It would be true to say that new titles released on the PS4, X1 and WiiU do get a boost from their respective software droughts, but if that was a significant factor in TLOU:R's success then we'd be seeing a similarly significant effect across many other titles. We aren't.
Instead we see TLOU:R's 1st week actually surpassing that of almost all other major releases (WD and MK8 are the only 2 recent home console exceptions) and it almost matching the 1st week of inFamous:SS (which had by far the largest opening of any infamous title). Heck, it almost managed to pass the LT sales of both the PS4 and X1 versions of TR:DE combined. Another 'unnecessary' remaster.
People can spend all day debating on necessity or justification of its existence but at the end only one thing matters; There was a strong demand for TLOU:R, Sony capitalized on that, and now we are seeing that demand manifest as sales.
