Read the article. 5 million is just the first step. Vendors and analysts expect up to 50m console sales over 5 years. So they expect more consoles to be approved later.

an expectation of 50M doesn't mean much when it is coming from BesTV, the guys trying to sell you the product.   ms expected to win this generation and strive for an "entertainment console" market 1 billion strong.   didn't happen.   don't make me pull out that chart of "analysts" expecations that ps3 would win last gen.
