Million, you didn't even mention anything in your post about why Microsoft would wait until 2013. Why did you put it in the title?
Anyway, one of the reasons Microsoft lost a lot of money last generation was because the life of the xbox was cut short by NVIDIA discontinuing the gpu it used in August of 2005. This caused Microsoft to rush the 360 market and led to the RRoD fiasco.
If it hadn't been for NVIDIA Microsoft would still be producing xboxs and selling them at a profit similar to the ps2. It would have also given Microsoft enough time to properly design the 360 and avoided the $3 billion loss caused by RRoD.
Chances are that the next generation xbox will come out between 2010 and 2012, but no one really knows since their transition from 6th generation to 7th generation was not of the choosing. I can guarantee that next time they will continue to sell the 360 even after the 720 comes out.
