The Taliban directly attacking America is the ultimate casus belli. When 2,977 citizens are killed and over 6,000 injured, in an unprovoked act, you're in the right no matter what you do.

I don't support or like the taliban or Al-Qaeda and targetting civilians is one of the worst war crimes, but you can hardly call it unprovoked. That situation was a direct result of American involvement in afghanistan and Iraq.

Um yea arming rebels and insurgents to fight against more oppressive people....yea that was really evil and provoking. If it was in the US's interest or not...it was just far from provoking

Arming them wasn't provoking (though arguably evil as it was only done out of spite to cost the USSR money and lives), abandoning them when they were no longer necessary was especially when they had made promises of support and funding for schools and infrastructure. Then there is the little matter of Iraq.
