I'm not sure about the chem trails. Maybe they're testing chemicals, so that they can study their effects and use them in weapons. 

They had no proof, but Saddam was threatening my hometown back then (Kuwait) and other neighbors with chemical weapons (that he already used before by the way http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halabja_chemical_attack ) he himself bragged about Weapons of mass destruction. This is because Iran was also threatining (and still is) about their own weapons of mass destruction.

And I'm not even talking about the first gulf war. Thats something I lived through personally as a kid.

But was war the only the only solution? There were many other options open to them they could have used to stop Saddam from doing anything. The real reason for the war was probably just getting that oil.
