That is just killing the sales before it even releases. That Batman game was pretty much considered to be pretty "meh" overall, in addition to the fact that the Wii U version was snubbed of DLC and the Season pass was cancelled. Also, the Wii U version was technically worse than the 360 and PS3 versions by a significant margin (according to Digital Foundry). RE: R had already released on a platform that many Nintendo fans owned (3DS) and sold quite well there. There is likely a large amount of Wii U owners who also own a 3DS, and those who were interested in the game likely already bought it. Its not "any minor flaw" that keeps people from buying these games, its that almost every 3rd party game on Wii U isn't as good as it should be. As I said, yes, there is some fault on the consumer for not supporting the good games when they come around (although realistically good sales of many 3rd party exlusives during the Wii generation showed that Nintendo gamers are willing to buy good content), but a userbase needs to be built, and 3rd parties haven't done their job to build it. Short term, they may not make much money on the ports (although I doubt they would lose money if the multiplats were of acceptable quality) but long term, 3rd parties can build a healthier ecosystem for themselves, which is necessary with rising dev costs. "If we were buying a lot of games we could demand a better quality and improved versions, but if nothing sells, the publishers will just not put too much effort, or like in this case, no effort at all." That is terrible logic. Its an obvious negative feedback loop, and its not the consumers job to buy shitty products in order to get companies to increase their quality. |
But the point is that those were NOT shitty products, Batman did not received DLC AFTER the sales sucked, because the game did came with the extra missions and Deathstroke skin at launch. Deus Ex is cheaper in another console, so I don't buy it for mine? that logic makes no sense... and even if that is true why people did not buy it after the price dropped. Injustice was a very good game that received almost all DLC, till it made no sense to release it because too few people had the game. Nintendo fans just want Nintendo exclusives, that is it, so now we cannot beg or demand anything from third party publishers because we don't buy their games anyway.
Did the small problems keep the PS3 gamers from buying a lot of third party games, it did not and as soon as the sales improved they were able to demand improved quality. Are the Xbox one players not buying the games because they are running at 720p instead of 1080p, or have a few frame drops? they are buying them and they will ask for improved quality because they are indeed showing to the publishers that they want those games.
Have you seen in the forum how many Nintendo Fans have 3rd party games for the Wii U? The number is too low and if I was running a bussiness like the publishers are, I will too ignore the platform because it does not make financial sense and my job is to make money and keep my workers safe, not offer better games to people who are not interested in buying them.
