You are forgetting one thing.

Xbox One was $100 more than PS4 for about 7 months. Despite that, the gap in North America is only about 600k units. Coupled with all of the bad publicity MS had, that is impressive. In addition, in north america, Xbox One has higher software sales and attach rate.

This is why I believe that MS has a loyal following in North America and will reclaim this territory. They have been making very aggressive moves and will continue to do so well into 2015.

I'm focusing on US and UK because that is the only path of redemption for Xbox. Worldwide is a lost cause and was never up for debate.

You're forgetting that the removal of Kinect did nothing for the X1. It's not going to just suddenly outselling the PS4 and even if they decide to give it a price cut, Sony can simply cut the PS4's price (if even needed) to keep their lead. Also, attach rates are irrelevant (often times, the PS3 had a higher one last gen). They will have no bearing on marketshare. As for "aggression", Sony has either been matched or exceeded them. I'd say they were far more agressive last gen.

Bottom line, this isn't the 360 era. In the 7th generation, MS enjoyed key advantages over Sony - advantages that are long gone now.


The sample size is not large enough to determine what effect the removal of kinect will have in the long term.

It has only been 2 months since Kinect has been removed. By December, the kinectless SKU will have been on the market almost the same time as the xbox one that launched with kinect. By then, we will know the $399 xbox has made an impact.

I have a feeling though that the gap in USA will start to decrease in the next 6 months, especially because of Halo MCC.
