DA1 really was a bore and weak on the story side. DA2 turned it around with an interesting story and a lot more action based gameplay. DAI seems to be a 50:50 mix of both so you might like it. I guess only people who know about the LotR universe will get the most out of SoW. It looks like a mid tier game and I don't think it will review all too well.
I guess it's all about what exactly you hated about DA1.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
