Whenever one of these Resolution gate topics pop up and someone says that resolution isn't a big deal, you inevitably have some people claiming that its only "not a big deal now that its in playstations flavor" implying that people who claim they don't care about resolution are biased towards the xbox and were singing a different tune last gen.
However, I don't remember resolution ever being a major issue last gen. Both consoles barely ever put out native 1080p games so what would people have even debated. They both used upscalers. Hell, most multiplats were sub-720p on both consoles.
That is not what the issue was last gen. The issue last gen was that PS3 multiplats were often very buggy and poorly made compared to their Xbox 360 counterparts. Its valid for people to say that they aren't that concerned with resolution because for many its not easy to perceive a difference between 720p upscaled to 1080p and native 1080p, but last gen that was not the discussion. PS3 multiplats were considered worse for a number of reasons that were not related to resolution or fps. Although this did get better as the generation continued.
So yeah, the issues in 7th gen vs 8th gen are apples and oranges.
