^^^  This...plus the fact that I abhor the "Metro UI" on the Xbox, dislike their new controller, and am deeply opposed to buying a system where even the usb cables are proprietary!

Isn't the connector on the dual shock 4 proprietary? All I know is that it isn't mini-usb like PS3 or Wii U. Unless they have a practical reason I find that shitty on Sony's part.

The DS4 uses an industry standard USB-Micro connector...the same one you use to charge your cell phone or tablet.  The DS3 uses USB-Mini.  Again, industry standard.  MS wants to make a little extra money from accessory sales, so they make their controller cables proprietary...then there is the proprietary power brick (Sony uses a standard power cord), the proprietary headphone jack (requiring you to buy a $20 adaptor), and the proprietary charging kit.

Okay, well like I started to say but edited it out, I'm not a cable expert. I've never seen a usb-micro as my newer devices are apple and use ightning connectors. All I knew is I have had a drawer half full of mini-usb cords and the two are so similar I couldn't figure out why PS4 even needed a different port on the controller.

It is crappy they only give you a three foot charge cord though. An extension cord is required if you only have one controller. At least it charges very quickly though.

edit: sorry, I derailed the post.
