People really mind it when it seems the public have voted with their wallets. Not even considering last gen but this Gen. The Tomb Raider Remaster and the install base. It is bad because it takes the power out of gamers hands and forces them to make choices they may not make organically. Some argue it simply drives competition but it truly doesnt. There is no competition with spending money to withhold something from a competitor it is cheap and stagnates progress. New IP? Not that big of a deal, Sunset Overdrive and Titanfall were not met with NEARLY this much animosity. The thing is this game was revealed to be coming to PS4 only 3 months ago so it isnt even as if this has been developed ground up with long term plans which makes it even worse because it appears as even MORE of a dick move for no apparent reason.
Bringing new IP's via monetary compensation is great, it allows studio to take risks and gives gamers somethign new. Using money to limit gamers access to existing IP's that have recently been shown off to them is another thing.
