I reckon MGS4 will do better in Japan than the previous games. The base is almost entirely hardcore and we've seen in the USA that PS3 owners will buy decent games at higher attach rates than 360 owners because the system has less great games to occupy them.
This could play in favour of a large number of Japanese gamers running out and buying the game.
