Not all the time stopping mechanics are scripted, he was obviously using time stopping stuff in his fights that werent scripted.  Freezing time to get to flanking cover or creating a time bubble around the enemies that he could shoot at so that when it dissappeared the enemy would get hit with like 5 bullets at once...

the time stopping stuff that is scripted is the prolonged elements where everything is frozen.  Dont really know how you could do that and not have it scripted...
