You say that like Dragon Quest won't remain "Nintendo-exclusive" (if we're ignoring smartphones & PC - same deal as Monster Hunter) for a while longer too.
Besides, console Monster Hunter games aren't exactly the explosive force they are on handhelds anyway - see Monster Hunter Tri vs. Monster Hunter 4.
I'd imagine Dragon Quest would have a bigger effect because it's not quite as embedded as a handheld game - see Dragon Quest VIII vs. Dragon Quest IX. With that said, it's been 10 years since we had a new home console Dragon Quest entry (ignoring X), so I'm not so sure anymoer.
